Eugene / Food

Food Porn

I seem to have become quite the photographer lately when it comes to food. Actually, not just lately. I started this little habit – taking photos of whatever I order in restaurants – about a year or two ago. I just love the way it’s put together and the details that go into it. What color the plates are, the way the food is arranged, what dish it is, whether there are little designs on the plate surrounding the main dish or whether it’s served alone, etc. It’s art and it’s food porn, something I’ve become addicted to. You could say it’s a new philosophy – appreciate the beauty of the food before you eat it.

A couple weeks ago, I decided it would be a really cool idea to start keeping track of what I eat when I eat out and posting the photos here. Whether you live in Eugene or not, we all love food, right? Here is what I took off my phone; enjoy!

The first set of photos are from Off The Waffle. Bakers of all things breakfast-y, Off The Waffle serves the best waffles in… Eugene? (Note to self: venture out of Eugene to see if there are better tasting waffles.)

The Beloved Bully: Belgian chocolate chips and freshly sliced strawberries on top of a crisp, golden waffle

On this particular day, I took my dad to OTW. He had never been here (gasp!) so he was in for a real treat.

The Overachiever: Belgian chocolate chips and sliced banana, drizzled with house-made dark chocolate sauce

I ordered The Bully, he ordered The Overachiever. Both, needless to say, were delicious. Notice how I took a bite of mine before taking the photo? I just couldn’t help myself. I love the chocolate sauce designs on the plate – so pretty and it pairs perfectly with the colored plates.

You probably don’t need me to tell you that people don’t come here and order waffles for a “healthy” breakfast. Unless you order an omelet, OTW is more like a dessert restaurant. Side note: their OJ is the perfect drink to accompany your waffles.

If you ever come to Eugene, Off The Waffle better be on your list of places to visit. You won’t be disappointed.
